Announcements:
  • Kristina gave us update on the workshop held at ENSS to bring awareness of homelessness to high school students. She also thanked Rotary for funding food that was cooked by ENSS culinary students to feed attendees. This included about 78 students representing all high schools in Northumberland County, plus some teachers and facilitators. She had a large 'Thank you' card from student to Rotary.
  • Brighton Rotary Board Meeting at Rotarian Dave's home - 140 Simpson Street. 6:30pm Tuesday December 12th.
  • Emmy and her outdoor ed class will be serving as fundraiser at Trenton Boston Pizza December 13, this is for a charity fundraiser.
  • Reminder, that PP Victoria is asking volunteers to consider a position on the board, particularly VP.
  • November 25th Auction - R Chris advised that our net profit was about $11,000. Thank you to all for success.
  • Landmines fundraiser, we will seek to partner / support Trenton Rotary event.
  • Christmas Social December 1 hosted by R Dave and Jean. Thank you to R Dave and Jean for hosting and opening their home.
  • R Alan and R Murray have hams and looking for people to pay.
  • District Conference next year to be held in Wellington October 27th. 'Rotary Reunion'. Easy to attend and minimal cost. Register in D7070 web site, also opportunity to host fellow Rotarian from away.
  • Looking for representative from club on the Christmas hamper committee.
  • RI Convention June 2018 - Opportunity to partner with Cobourg and Northumberland Rotary Clubs to host June 25 at Durham College in Whitby.
  • Adult Spelling Bee at Trenton Rotary January 29, Brighton defending champions (R Dan has can of Alphagetti to prove it)
  • January 4 possible bowling social with Quinte Sunrise Rotary
  • Possible Valentine Dance Feb 9 or 10 hosted by Trenton Rotary
  • RLI level #1 and #2 possible over 3 Monday evenings at Campbellford, Brighton and Trenton. Need interest from 15 - 20 for each session.
  • R Ricardo advised that Emmy is moving to Kristina Ward's home early January and has opportunity to go to Vermont Skiing over Christmas break with current host family. Waiting for District Committee approval. Outbound Abby McDougal has switched families and doing better. 2018/19 outbound student completing medical and other requirements to go out next summer.
  • R Daphne advised of activities of ENSS Interact Club (Me to We, Anti bullying, Hot chocolate sales, basket raffle and milk bag collection to make mats).
  • R Victoria has neighbour with accessibility aids available. Recommended to contact Community Care.
  • R Chris advised that we coordinate donations next year to food bank with CP Holiday Train.
Membership Challenge
 
R Murray presented the following membership challenge (adapted from article in Rotary Magazine)
 
Time Period - December 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018
Rules:
1. Teams consist of each of the 3 POD's.
2. Points: 1 point for the presence of a guest as a potential member; 2 points if the guest takes a membership application; 3 points when the guest is inducted.
3. Upon receipt of the application, the usual process for dealing with the application is to be followed.
4. The team at March 31 with the greatest number of points is the winner.
5. Members of the winning team (POD) are to be treated to a breadfast at the expense of the losing teams at a regular Breakfast meeting.
 
Suggestion - POD's can identify potential individuals to be approached and a Rotarian to approach and invite the individual to join us.

R Michael introduced Nadyne Mattis and Shelly Ackers of Quinte Access.
 
Quinte Access - Began in 1989 and Rotary was a supporter from the beginning. All Volunteers. Began to provide transportation to disabled, not only during week, but weekends and evenings. They even provide services Christmas Day.
 
They now have some Government support, but had none when they began.
 
Recent years their ridership has increased. Now providing a regular transit route. Drivers are paid and need bus license to drive. They service Brighton, Trenton and County.
