As the English Premier League new season starts:
Nigel being a long-time season’s ticket holder for City, takes his usual seat prior to the derby match. Oliver, who has had the seats next to Nigel for years, notices the empty seat next to Nigel is vacant. Oliver asks, “oi Nigel where’s the wife at?’. Nigel replies that sadly she has died. Oliver then states, “I can’t believe you couldn’t find a friend or relative to join you”. Nigel responds, “Well mate, they’re all at the funeral.”

Paul Harris Pin Presentation

President Joyce presented a PHF pin +5 to former Rotarian Ted Harp

Paul Harris once said, "Perhaps dreaming is not so bad if one dreams good dreams and makes them come true." In Rotary, we make dreams a reality through extraordinary projects and activities here at home and around the world. These projects would not be possible without the generous support of Rotarians and friends of our Foundation. The Rotary Foundation recognizes those individuals who donate US$1,000 or more to the annual fund, Polio Plus or approved Foundation Grants by presenting them with a Paul Harris Fellow.
These gifts enable Rotary's worldwide network of dedicated humanitarians to implement projects that address pressing needs in communities around the world. Because of these contributions:
Children are vaccinated against Polio and other diseases.
Adults and children alike can learn to read and write.
Women are given micro loans and vocational training that enable them to support themselves and their families in a healthy and dignified way.
Teachers and school children have access to toilet facilities and clean drinking water.
Scholars are able to study ways to prevent maternal and child mortality.
Professionals from around the world convene to discuss strategies for resolving conflict and fostering peace.
Today,we recognize Ted Harp as a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, for enabling Rotary to make an impact on individuals, families, and entire communities. On their behalf, we offer our sincere appreciation for your ongoing generosity.

HIP (Honouring Indigenous People) National Youth 2 Youth Engagement Event in 2024
HIP is planning a second national Youth 2 Youth (Y2Y) Engagement event for 2024.  The program will be patterned after the 2023 event in Winnipeg.  In particular we will continue;
  • Bringing together indigenous and non-indigenous students from across Canada,
  • The collaboration among ten or more Rotary Districts in the funding, recruiting and organizing a shared event, and
  • Bringing together youth from First Nations, Metis and Inuit groups to share experiences and cultures.
We are asking your Rotary Club, right here in District 7070 to support and encourage the program.  Our growing network of Rotary Clubs, teachers, school boards and First Nations communities will seek outstanding high school students, from District 7070 to participate.
Plans are underway for a Y2Y event in District 7070 and for including Indigenous youth in other programs.

Stories
PARN chapter in Brighton
Amy Dane and Meg introduced themselves.

Amy is R Murray's grand-daughter in-law who moved to Brighton a few years ago. She has  local business and is starting a second. She new Dane from Durham Region where they met as advocates for others.

Dane joined us from Ajax this morning. He is working with PARN.

Meg owns the Tin Roof, the ice cream store in Brighton. Meg and Amy recognizes a local need that grew organically with youth finding a safe space at the Tin Roof. It started several years ago with an ENSS coop student finding support and at the former Arts store Meg had. One student grew to several.

Amy brought Dane on board to provide broader support and education. through their Rainbow Youth Program.

Peterborough Aids Resource Network (PARN) provides support and education to four Counties - Peterborough, Kawartha, Haliburton and Northumberland. They have been around for 33 years. The pandemic provided challenges but opportunities to learn and adapt. They have a model to provide support for local initiatives to provide a welcoming environment, a place to feel safe and to be safe. To protect youth.

Meg's vision is to provide a comfortable, welcoming and safe space for youth in Brighton from bullying. This will involve some renovations, equipment  and amenities including kitchenette and possible art corner for creativity and expression. She is looking to get input from the youth.

Amy's role is organizing and budget that they are working on and hope to have in mid September. They have about $2,000 at this time.

Rotary presented cheque for funds raised at the Pop Up Pride event held at Memorial Park June 11 this year. About $421.
