R Chris introduced Karen White, not a stranger to Rotary. She has a new role with the newly amalgamated Bay of Quinte Relay for Life. The Cancer Society raises funds primarily for Research and support services. They have had to close offices and let staff go due to COVID. In 2020 they had to adjust and held their first Virtual Relay for Life with 4,200 participants. This year, the event will be held June 12th at 8pm and it will be National. Their goal is to raise $4.5 million nationally. For the Bay of Quinte event, they already have 91 teams registered. That is Karen's primary focus right now to promote and recruit teams. They have several corporate sponsors and seeking more. She appreciates the years of support from the Rotary Club of Brighton as Luminary sponsors. Lights available on line. Those living with cancer used to be called survivors, now they are referred to as participants of hope. Karen likes this new phrase because it is all about Hope. R Jeff thanked Karen for her years of service, help and support. |
