Emily Steele was inducted as Brighton's newest Rotarian. Welcome back to Rotary Emily.
 
Announcements:
  • R Phyo from the Wellington Rotary Club explained home hosting for the 2018 Rotary District Conference to be held in Wellington October 27, 2018. There are not a lot of hotels in Wellington, so local Rotarians in the area are being asked to open their homes to other Rotarians from the District. You can open your home either Friday night, Saturday night or both nights. Go to the District web site and go to District Conference link to register for home hosting. Or go directly to www.rotary7070conference.org.
  • R Michael Parkder from the Cobourg Rotary Club presented the 2018 Northumberland Concert and Dinner to be held in Port Hope on Sunday January 21, 2018. Cost is $70 per person for the concert and dinner. 6 restaurants to choose from but have to book early as Carlyle already full.
  • R Chris announced that he and R Murray will organize No Frills raffle in March
  • R Ricardo announced that Emmy is on ski trip to Vermont
  • R Daphne has 15 ENSS students signed up for Camp Enterprise
  • Landmines fundraiser, we will seek to partner / support Trenton Rotary event.
  • District Conference next year to be held in Wellington October 27th. 'Rotary Reunion'. Easy to attend and minimal cost. Register in D7070 web site, also opportunity to host fellow Rotarian from away.
  • Adult Spelling Bee at Trenton Rotary January 29, Brighton defending champions (R Dan has can of Alphagetti to prove it)
  • R Clay, Emily and Steve participated with family at the bowling social with Quinte Sunrise Rotary at Club Med in Trenton January 4.
  • Possible Valentine Dance Feb 9 or 10 hosted by Trenton Rotary
  • RLI level #1 and #2 this winter cancelled due to lack of participants.
  • District Training at BMO Learning Centre will be Saturday May 12, 2018 starting at 8am to 2pm. All executive are encouraged to attend. Cost will be covered by Club. Registration should be available on District site in new year.
  • For the Membership Challenge, R Gord Leverton of Quinte Sunrise has found another former Rotarian in Brighton wishing to join. She lives in Gosport, formerly with the Whitby Sunrise Rotary Club. She works at the Royal Bank in Trenton.
  • January 21, 2018 - Port Hope, Cobourg and Northumberland Sunrise with Northumberland Orchestra & Choir present 'Glorious Hollywood' at Port Hope United Church. Starts at 3:30 pm followed by dinner at one of 6 local restaurants (seating limited). Cost for concert and dinner is $70.
 
 
Membership Challenge
 
R Murray presented the following membership challenge (adapted from article in Rotary Magazine)
 
Time Period - December 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018
Rules:
1. Teams consist of each of the 3 POD's.
2. Points: 1 point for the presence of a guest as a potential member; 2 points if the guest takes a membership application; 3 points when the guest is inducted.
3. Upon receipt of the application, the usual process for dealing with the application is to be followed.
4. The team at March 31 with the greatest number of points is the winner.
5. Members of the winning team (POD) are to be treated to a breadfast at the expense of the losing teams at a regular Breakfast meeting.
 
Suggestion - POD's can identify potential individuals to be approached and a Rotarian to approach and invite the individual to join us.
 
Scores - POD#1 = 1, POD#2 and POD#3 have some work to do.
