This happened to an Englishman in France who was totally blasted. A French policeman stops his car and asks if he has been drinking. With great difficulty, the Englishman admits that he has been drinking all day, that his daughter got married that morning, and that he drank champagne and a few bottles of wine at the reception, and many single malts scotches thereafter.
Quite upset, the policeman proceeds to alcohol-test (breath test) the Englishman and - ping, pow, boom - verifies that he is indeed sloshed. He asks the Englishman if he knows why, under French Law, he is going to be arrested. The Englishman answers with a bit of humor, "No sir, I do not! But while we're asking questions, do you realize that this is a British car and that my wife is the one driving . . . . . on the other side?"

Proposed Great Lakes Watershed Cleanup scheduled for April 24 has been postponed to June due to Stay At Home Order.

We have launched a new opportunity for Youth in our District, and with our neighbours in District 7010, and Indigenous communities within the Williams Treaty area. Please share this information in the newsletter as soon as possible, on social media for the District - and if possible, with all presidents and secretaries to share amongst their membership. REGARDING: Williams Treaty Youth-to-Youth (Y2Y) Engagement Circle October 8, 9 & 10 To Whom it may concern, I am writing to request your support for a Youth-to-Youth (Y2Y) learning experience involving Indigenous and Non- Indigenous youth in grades 9 to 11 . This Y2Y engagement opportunity has been developed by HIP (Honouring Indigenous Peoples) and co-created by a strong list of stakeholders incng Indigenous Elders, Teachers, Education Counselors, Knowledge Keepers, Rotarians and other ethical leaders. Building on the success of HIP’s earlier programs, Y2Y engagement circles focus on peace and reconciliation while inspiring youth to work together and take action towards becoming good stewards of the land. What is HIP's Youth to Youth (Y2Y) Engagement: Y2Y engagement circles are an innovative way to promote understanding between Non-Indigenous and Indigenous youth. We believe it's a good way to fulfill HIP's mission by having young people in grades 9-11, Canada's future leaders, collaborate and learn from each other. Subject to all restrictions to control COVID19, this Y2Y engagement will bring together a balanced group of rural and urban non-indigenous and indigenous students over the weekend of October 8 to 10 at Camp Kawartha for relationship building activities focused on land-based education. This will provide an opportunity for these youth to build friendships with like-minded youth, learn Indigenous heritage, culture and treaty relationships, and develop hands-on understanding of nature and what it means to be a good steward of the land. Nominations: Selected participants include 25 Indigenous and 25 Non-Indigenous youth currently attending grades 9 to 11. We hope to receive a diverse representation of Non-Indigenous applicants, including settlers from various countries and Non-Turtle Island Indigenous youth. Additionally, we are inclusive and welcome those who identify as Genderqueer, Non-binary and Two-spirit. We are asking Indigenous Communities and Rotary Clubs, within the Williams Treaty Territory, District 7010 and District 7070, to nominate youth who have demonstrated leadership potential within their communities. We are days away from the end of the Rotary year! You can help Rotary continue to do good in the world by encouraging club members to make a contribution on or before 30 June 2021. Donations made this Rotary year will be applied to your club fundraising goal, help your club qualify for a Foundation banner, and be applied to a donor's individual giving record.
In 2018 the Rotary Club of Brighton was approached to partner with the Rotary Club of Taquatinga in District 4530 in Brasil to supply water filters to poor families living in a slum called Santa Luzia. There are about 7,000 families in this community. Most of the families made their livelihood picking through garbage. They have no water supply or proper sanitary. Their water source is contaminated leading to many diseases. Our exchange student Eloisa became a champion for this project and visited many Rotary Clubs promoting this project. Other clubs such as the Rotary Club of Campbellford and Stirling also supported this project.
The overall budget was about $35,000US and it has taken a few years to organize and implement. But recently, about 2,000 clay filters were distributed to the families in need. COVID protocols were followed to protect the families and many volunteers who helped.
