Polio Plus - 9 cases in 2023 from wild polio virus. Attacks the nervous system, crippling, death.  Virus mutated, new strain from vaccine derived as vaccine contained live virus. Addressed now. Young man low 20’s in New York State now paralyzed. Detected in waste water in New York, London and Montreal. They can trace where it came from. The fight is Not over yet, still immunizing millions of children each year.  Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation matching 2:1 up to $100,000,000 annually. Means we need to raise $50,000,000. If we don’t, we leave Gates money not utilized.

Fraud Prevention
R Murray introduced Katrina:

Aux Staff Sgt Katrina Myers is the Unit Commander for the Northumberland Auxiliary Unit.  She has been an Auxiliary Member for 11 years, and also works for the OPP as a civilian at the Brighton detachment.

As part of the OPP Auxilary Unit she is a volunteer. They are to provide 10 hours of service a month. There are presently 7 members. They don't carry guns or tazers. She enjoys her role, serving the community.

Fraud can happen to any of us.

If we fall for a scam, reach out for help.

Her big message for today - Slow them down, the UK's promotion is to take 5. Stop. Challenge. Protect Yourself.

They will try to manipulate you, to rush you. Common themes are:

Romance Fraud. they create a relationship, make a connection. They rely heavily on emotions. Many people looking for a connection. If too good to be true, likely a scam. Hints, don't want  to meet in person, want private communications, discourage you from talking to others. Don't send pictures of yourself, especially not compromising ones, can lead to blackmail.
Don't accept money.

You can do a Google image search for picture they provide you.

Emergency Fraud - or grandparent scam. They create an emergency. Never send gift cards, money, bit coin. Tells are rushing, need money by certain time and they don't want you to talk to others.

CRA Fraud.  they threaten and ask for personal information. they demand payment.
Don't click on links.
Go to actual site like OPP office. Navigate legitimate site, not one they provide.
They use aggressive language, ask for odd payments like gift cards. Don't give out personal information.

Bank Investigation Fraud. Banks never use public to do their investigations. Never give numbers over the phone. They often call early in the morning.

Spoofing. they use throw away phone numbers.

Delayed Disconnect. They say hang up and call number. But they don't and keep line open so you actually talk to same line, not new number you think you dialed.

Delete texts and hang up.

If you become a victim, report to your bank and OPP. Share this information with two people.

Remember to Stop, challenge and protect yourself.
