Induction of Ted Harp into the Rotary Club of Brighton. Welcome back Ted. (R Ted was put right to work taking attendance on his first day).
 
Guests: Exchange Student Eloisa de Castro Costa from Brazil, Rotarian Assistant Governor Shirley Ross from Colborne Rotary.
 
Correspondence:
  • Invoice from RI for semi-annual dues
  • Request for support from the Brighton Curling Club for their Steerspiel in March
  • Campbellford Trivia Night - Movie Trivia - Saturday April 13th, 2019. $100 entry fee for team of up to 8. Prizes, silent auction etc. Doors open at 6pm. Trivia starts at 7pm.
  • Quinte Sunrise Rotary Club is having Fish and Chips Saturday March 30th, 2019. $25 each. 5pm at the Dug Out. Pres Brigitte expected to visit us to promote.
  • Colborne Rotary is hosting special presentation and dinner Monday February 25th at the Keeler Centre. 6:30pm. Rotary Clubs of Brighton, Port Hope, Cobourg and Colborne nominated Jeff Kawzenuk for the D7070 Wilf Wilkinson Award for Peace. this nomination was made year ago for Jeff's work to engage local students with the Journey of Hope Project in Tanzania.

Announcements:
  • Board meeting at R Dan's home - Tuesday February 19th at 6:30pm
  • Valentine's Dance scheduled for Thursday February 14th, 7pm to 11pm with DJ. Tickets will be $25 each. Notice will go out to other clubs. We need minimum or 40 tickets sold to break even.
  • Regular meeting Friday February 15th will be cancelled.
  • Brighton Rotary Auction and Dinner May 11, 2019
  • Brighton Rotary is 30 - June 2019.
  • District Conference next year - Rotary Muskoka Style at JW Marriott The Rosseau Muskoka Resort and Spa - October 25 - 27, 2019. Early registration fee $299. Rooms at special rate of $135 / night while they last.
  • No Frills Raffle planned for March. Duty roster being circulated. We start the weekend of March 22 leading up to Easter.
  • Northumberland Rotary Music Festival in 2019. They are looking for photographer for first week of April. May be small cost to clubs.
  • Brighton / Colborne Rotary Clubs joint application to send an ENSS student to Adventures in Citizenship in spring 2019 accepted.
  • Camp Enterprise for 2019, May 2 to 4 at Trent University. Looking for sponsors, mentors and drivers.
  • Pres Patty advised that R Chris and Fran are enjoying the Dominican
Eloisa's Report:
1. History exam today - Good luck.
2. Snow days this week (3).
3. Due to the weather, she did not go to Toronto Wednesday for the Women in Rotary celebration. However, DG Mary Lou sold about $150 worth of her hand made cards.
6. She participated in her first snow ball fight.
7. She had hot chocolate and cinnamon buns at R Joyce's home last night.

Happy Bucks:  enjoying cold and sunshine, good attendance, weather, Ted back in club, to be happy, graduate with license and officially can sell, did not have to drive to Cobourg Wednesday night, happy for so many things, back with friends, St. Lucia and street dance with energy.
 
Rotary Minute: R Jeff W reminded us of the success of the Polio eradication campaign. Over 2.5 billion children have been vaccinated. It is a dangerous job for the volunteers to go out to vaccinate the children in some countries. Jeff has a connection to a family who raised family with while mother had polio.

Business Meeting Jan 25 2019
Today was a Business Meeting
 
Regarding finances, we are spending money faster than we are making it, so we need to raise some funds to replenish the account.
 
There is room and need for Rotarians on the board. About 1/2 club is on the board. R Jeff W asked if it would make sense to make the whole club the board?
 
Club Service - R Murray advised that Fishing Derby will be May 4 and 5. He will start organizing shortly for the weigh station.
 
Auction organization will begin after the Valentine Dance.
 
R Daphne reported that Interact Club has been slow with exams and snow days. Current President has some family issues and so VP may take over.
R Daphne advised that they are still looking for mentors and drivers for Camp Enterprise.
R Daphne said that applications for Adventures in Citizenship are in ENSS and due shortly.
 
Community Service - R Emily reported the following committments:

$1,000 to Relay for Life (luminaire sponsor)

New Generations - Always looking for host families
 
International - R Clay reported that the Homeless Hospice in Mexico was off the table, therefore, the $1,000 committed was redirected to the Brazilian project for the garbage workers. In addition, as a club we will take lead in D7070 to coordinate and partner with Rogerio's Club in Brazil to seek Global Grant for this project.
 
R Mark suggested that past RI Pres Wilf Wilkinson and Dr. Bob Scott may be helpful in this project.
