Good morning, Brighton Rotary! Here I come again with my "short" reports about what I'm up to.
I start college tomorrow (Sep 3rd) and I couldn't be more excited about it. I made Brazilian and Mexican friends who I'm already exploring Ottawa with and, of course, learning from.
It's bee quite an experience to learn how things work in a big city for a smalltown girl, (I got lost many times, took wrong buses, ended up at the wrong park at Gatineau...) but I made everything look like an adventure laughing at myself many times.

I hope President Dan transformed the morning meetings into a rock concert already,

oh and another thing... since I'm not there anymore, now everyone is allowed to eat as many potatoes as they want!

And once again, I'd like to recognize your support during my exchange year. You all made me grow up and learn.

Please come to visit me in Ottawa! :)
Love, Elo

2. Repeatedly invite prospective members, unless you get defininative No.
3. Ensure prospective members feel important. Everyone should speak to them.
4. Make your meetings Fun.
5. Have a clear membership goal, develop strategic plan and establish budget.
Stories
Brighton Cadets Trip to Alberta 2019
R Clay introduced from the Brighton Cadets:

MWO James Thornton and CMO
Cpl Abigail Livingston -Usher

MWO James Thornton and Cpl Abigail Livingston -Usher shared some stories of their trip to Alberta in June.

MWO Thornton has been with Cadets 3 years. He is 2nd in command with local cadets.
Cpl Livingston-Usher is in her first year with cadets.

They thanked Rotary for support to go on the trip in June to Albert were they attended the annual ceremony honouring veterans of the 1st Canadian Paratroop Battalion that was formed in 1942, but disbanded after the war.

2019 is the 75th anniversary. The local Brighton Cadets are part of the Canadian paratroops.

The mountain's name became official in 1994 when approved by the Geographical Names Board of Canada to honor the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion. In Latin, Ex Coelis means Out of the Clouds and is their motto.

In 1997 the five peaks of Ex Coelis Mountain were assigned individual names. Normandy Peak, Ardennes Peak, and Rhine Peak were named for World War II battles in which the battalion participated. Elbe Peak was named for the river near where the battalion met the Russian Army. Stan Waters Peak is named for Stanley Waters, a battalion member.

The cadets participated in the ceremony. In addition to this official function, they toured the area, including:
horse back riding / trail riding
glaciers, some of cadets drank runoff waters from the glacier,

The cadets flag shows the battle honours of the Canadian 1st parachute battalion.

Pres Daniel thanked the cadets for sharing their story.
