Stories
Debby Smit's YMAM Ships tour
R Nancy introduced her sister Debby who exemplifies 'Service Above Self'. Debby volunteered with YMAM Ships for over a year in Papua New Guinea.
Debby introduced us to YWAM Ships, (Youth With A Mission). It is a world wide organization of about 20,000 volunteers bringing medical care to remote areas lacking health care. YMAM was founded 60 years ago. It is a Christian organization for young volunteers. YMAM Ships is just one part of the organization.

Debby always wanted to work on a ship from a young age watching the Love Boat on TV. She volunteered and worked as cook and house keeper. She spent 14 months living on the ship in cramped quarters. They had a variety of health professionals on board to provide care such as cataract surgery and dental care to the people living in very primitive conditions. But they do have cell phones in the middle of nowhere.

The locals have a very different sense of time.

Lots of poverty, low wages, things expensive.
