Brighton Rotary News Feb 26 2021
We have a Brighton Rotary Channel. Check out: https://youtu.be/1UCS-Ze-az0

Members: 7

Guests: Former Inbound Exchange Student Eloisa de Castro Costa

Correspondence: none

Smile: blush

A group of people are waiting at a bus stop. None of them are smiling or animated in any way until one man started chuckling and then laughing out loud. At first people smiled a little and bit by bit they also started chuckling and then laughing. It was infectious.
What started the man laughing was an article about two lawyers discussing the ethical concerns of a doctor making love to one of his patients. One lawyer said that was a particularly straightforward case while the other one thought it may be problematic because the doctor was a vet.
(R Craig you are missed)

Sharing Pot: all are encouraged to share as they are able or willing.

Happy Bucks: waiting for things to happen, a good day, feeling well, 5 days to hair cut, Eloisa with us today, sunny day, snow going, Fran good news from Doctor, walks in morning with moon light to west and sunrise to the east, spring like, sitting on deck in sun.

Rotary Minute:

“In the end, more than they wanted Freedom they wanted Security. And in their quest for it all - Security, Comfort and Freedom - they lost it all. When the Athenians wanted finally not to give to society but for society to give to them: When the Freedom they wished for most was the Freedom from Responsibility, then Athens ceased to be Free." Edward Gibbon (1737-1794) English Historian

Stories
Eloisa's update from Ottawa
Pres Joyce introduced Eloisa as the women who needs no introduction:

Eloisa shared an update of what she has been up to.

School in Ottawa - she is on the honour role - congratulations Eloisa.

Students worked with some local small businesses to help them during pandemic to improve their business. Eloisa worked with a Yoga club that also sells some products.

Eloisa applied and was accepted to work with a mentor to develop / pitch business ideas. She has her first meeting with mentor today.

She is taking some extra classes in negotiations techniques. When asked why I believe she feels she has trouble negotiating from her own position.

During lock down she has had more time at home so never sedate, she is always keeping busy and active. She tried to learn French but gave it up as too hard and is now learning German.

Work - She works at Tip Top Tailors part-time. She finds it nice and this weekend while manager away, she will manage the store for two days.

Volunteering - She volunteer(s) with Red Cross and at start of pandemic went out in low income areas to talk to people to learn their needs. A lot of Russian spoken so communication and understanding was an issue. Some needed help with essential supplies such as groceries.

She is part of local Rotex program (former exchange students). She will be one of the speakers at the March 9 Tuesday Talks District 7070 holds virtually.

She also helped at 10,000 Villages until they closed.

Eloisa now as a 5 month old 'bunny'.

She is learning how to make soy candles. She says we have to stay creative and develop new ideas.

Eloisa has an online skin care business. She is taking couple weeks off for mid-terms and look out, she is taking driving lessons and has her G1.

She did visit her family in Brazil late last spring. Some issues getting back to Canada due to huge increases in flight costs. She found a way back via Mexico where she stayed in a small cocoon like enclosure for lay over at the Mexico City airport.

She graduates in April and plans to pursue International Business as a career. She is looking to take more schooling, possibly in Germany.

We wished Eloisa well and congragulated her on her good works and efforts. She turned 20 on February 3.
