Announcements:
  • Special thank you to Katie and Sandy Pearsall who stepped up to plan and organize the Rotary Food Booth this year. Their innovate and new idea; 'gourmet grilled cheese' sandwiches were a big success. Also thanks to all the volunteers who helped. R Chris gave a financial summary: We sold 277 gourmet sandwiches, 28 child sandwiches and 388 drinks. It was a hot day, so the lemonade was a big hit! Total sales, including donations and sale of surplus food amounted to $2,299.30. Expenses to date are $1,196.31. That leaves a profit of $1,152.99. There was a fair bit of food left over, most of it donated. Sandy and Katie will be donating same to a local charity. For the first year of trying something different, I'd say it was a great success. There were plenty of compliments from customers. The ladies have suggestions to enhance the event for next year.
  • Unfortunately parking lot sales did not result in any sales. Too much free parking in Brighton. However, there was no cost to the club. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
  • Club is encouraging Rotarians who have never attended District Conference by providing $100 towards their registration. Go to District web site to register.
  • Brighton Rotary can 'brag' about local projects or look for support from other clubs at the District Conference.
  • Smart Serve Training with Belleville Rotary - Saturday October 21. Cost = $25.
  • November 25th Auction and fundraiser being organized. Shall be live and silent auction with entertainment. Community Centre is booked as well as caterer. Cost will be $70 each.
  • Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) at Loyalist College Saturday September 30th cancelled due to low registration. Other opportunities November 18 and April 14 at Centennial College in Scarborough.
  • District is donating $10,000 from reserves to Shelter Box in response to world wide devastation last couple months.
  • Brighton Rotary is now registered for 'Local Lager' at local Beer Store. Therefore, sales of this lager will result in revenue source for Brighton Rotary.
  • R Murray has shopping list from Red Stone Clothing that will be circulated. Rotarians can decide do we order individually, or as a group.
  • Looking for input regarding fundraiser to promote removal of landmines.
  • Christmas events being planned - likely get together at R Dave's home (pot luck), and diner and panto at Port Hope. More information and dates to follow.
  • Camp Enterprise looking for confirmation of Brighton Rotary participation and representative. Meeting scheduled for Sept 26. R Daphne has participated in past. President has emailed and asked is she is willing to continue in this role.
