Smile: blush

A bum approached a well-dressed businessman on the street.
'Hey buddy, can you spare two dollars?'
The businessman responded, 'You are not going to spend it on liquor are you?'
'No sir, I don't drink' said the bum.
'You are not going to throw it away in some crap game, are you?'
'No way, I don't gamble' answered the bum.
'You wouldn't waste the money at a golf course on green fees, would you?'
'Nope' said the bum, 'I've never even played golf'.
The businessman duly handed over a toonie and asked the bum if he would like to come home with him for a home-cooked meal. 'My wife's a great cook.' he added.
The bum looked at his ragged dirty cloths. 'Isn't your wife going to be angry when she sees a guy like me at your table?'
'Probably' said the businessman, 'but I want her to see what happens to a guy who doesn't drink, gamble or play golf.'

Rotary is a global network of 1.4 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.

Solving real problems takes real commitment and vision. For more than 110 years, Rotary's people of action have used their passion, energy, and intelligence to take action on sustainable projects. From literacy and peace to water and health, we are always working to better our world, and we stay committed to the end.

Stories
HUGS update Nov 2023
R Chris introduced Helmut Enns from HUGS. Helmut was an Elementary School Teacher in Brighton and a couple other schools in the area.

He believes in Giving Back.

Helmut says we are fortunate to live in Canada. When Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, Canada opened our borders to Ukrainians fleeing the conflict. The initial opening was extended in July 2023 and it is for three years to live and work in Canada before going back or deciding to stay.

17 Brighton families have opened their doors to Ukrainians. Helping 44 adults and children adjust to Canada.

HUGS has 50 volunteers that help drive to appointments, with groceries, job hunting and emergency dental care, health cards, furniture,  to name a few.

A big thanks to all who have contributed.

These people fleeing war have lost everything.

What HUGS needs now is Host Families. People willing to open up their homes to help new arrivals make adjustment to Canada. Host can choose 1 person, a couple or family. You can look for a match that fits. If interested, reach out to HUGS. The hosting is from a few weeks and up to 6 months.

You register on line and look for match with Ukraine family. Get to know them first.

HUGS provides financial support. $80/week for food for an adult and $50/week for a child. Also school supplies and medical.

R Daniel thanked Helmut.
