Our non verbal communication we know has an impact on how others judge / interpret us. We use it to pick friends, dates, hiring staff, who gets promoted etc. We are influenced by our non verbals. People show their power or lack of power in their non verbal posture. Those with power tend to open up, dominate their space whereas others with less power close up, shrink, take less space. She showed examples of winners and shy people. They have done studies of people and assessed them and compared their posture to how they were viewed / judged. Her question was how do our own non verbal stances affect our selves. If we open up, stretch out, take more space, will be feel more powerful, be seen as more powerful? If we close up, cross arms instead of stretching out, make ourselves smaller, will we feel less powerful? Do our bodies change our minds. Through experiment and trials with participants, they believe our non verbal stance can impact our minds. Taking a high power pose improves and raises our own self. The opposite is true if we take a low power pose. When we feel more powerful, we tend to take more risks, and be seen as more assertive and powerful. We can train ourselves to feel and be more 'powerful' by practicing and taking power poses. Think of 'Wonder Women' pose. Our bodies change our minds. Our minds change our behavior. Tiny tweaks can make big changes in ourselves.
