1. Request to support children's village at Applefest.

Children’s village for Applefest. It takes place on September 23rd 2023. Our children’s village is free for all event that includes 3 bouncy houses (1 toddler, 2 for ages 4 and up), a rock climbing wall, 3 interactive games such as whack a mole, 3-1 sports center that includes axe throwing (blow-up), basketball, football and soccer, rock climbing wall and touch a truck event. All of which are free to anyone who walks into our village. We believe every child

should be able to come to our event and enjoy it without having to worry about whether or not their parents can afford to attend. We are hoping that you will be able to help sponsor our village so that we can make it the best Children’s Village that Brighton has ever seen. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Great Lakes Watershed Cleanup - Rotary Day of Service!

Saturday, April 22nd (Earth Day), our 3rd Annual 'Great Lakes Watershed Cleanup' Event and A District wide Rotary Day of Service. We will be joined by 100's of other Clubs from additional Districts surrounding the Great Lakes. This is our day to show 'Rotary in Action' on a massive scale, and promote 'Environmental Sustainability' within our communities. Pull out your T-Shirt from last year, and sign-up. In addition, please invite family, friends and neighbours to participate with us. What a great opportunity for us to promote our 'Rotary Day of Service', where the goal is to involve 25% non-Rotarians. Rotary District 7070 Assembly

To be held at Centennial College 8th floor

Saturday, 6th of May 2023 - the District Assembly is back in person after the COVID Disruption.

In view of the annual turnover of Rotary leadership each year, special effort is required to provide club leaders with appropriate instruction for the tasks they will assume. The annual district assembly is the major leadership training event in each Rotary district of the world. The workshops offer motivation, inspiration, Rotary information and new ideas for club officers, directors and key committee chairmen of each club. Some of the most experienced district leaders conduct informative discussions on all phases of Rotary administration and service projects. The sessions give all participants valuable new ideas to make their club more effective and interesting.

Normally 5 to 7 delegates from each club (officers, directors, committee chairs, and all interested Rotarians both experienced and new to Rotary, etc.) are invited to attend the training session.

It is mandatory for President Elects to take part in the assembly, they will need to approve the 2023-2024 District Budget. This year the Assembly Fee is $50 per person it includes all meals and parking.

Rotary Clubs in District 7070 - Few spots left!!

The 2023 Rotary Youth Leadership Symposium (RYLS) is taking place, May 11-14, 2023 at the Ganaraska Forest Centre! The 3-night experience is geared toward youth between the ages of 17-23 and will offer an inspiring program including: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Reconciliation and Land Based Education, Hands-on Activities, Group Dynamics, Public Speaking, Outdoor Survival and GPS Geocache adventures along with campfires, friendship and tons of fun and learning!!! All this for only $375 per participant which covers all programs, accommodation, and meals. Rotary Clubs are encouraged to find and sponsor eligible participants within their community, as well as members of the Rotaract and Interact Clubs that they host. There are only 30 spots available! A group of Edmonton friends were huge party people, they drank too much, smoked and when they died, they all ended up in Hell. But they loved, it. It was hot, so they played like they were at a paradise resort. The Devil didn't like this, so he cranked up the heat. They continued to enjoy it and party, cooking steaks and having a good time. So the Devil flipped the switch the other way and made it very cold. When the Devil checked on them again, they were still partying because Hell had frozen over and that meant the Oilers had won the cup..

Announcements:

Outbound youth exchange student Nika will be going to Poland on exchange, her first choice. Next get together for students April 22. For an inbound we will prefer a boy but flexible.
Next board meeting will be held at R Steve S's home on Tuesday April 25th at 6:30pm
We are looking for speakers for May
Next bottle drive April 15.
No Frills raffle before May long weekend. .Tickets sales start April 21. Duty roster circulated.
Rotarian's have to update 'Smart Serve' certification by July 1.
Kiwanis Fishing Derby is on and we need volunteers for weigh station starting midnight May 6 to 4PM Sunday May 7. Knights taking half the shifts.
Watershed Clean up April 22 We have registered for Keep the County Clean challenge.
Spelling Bee - Brighton Public School participating. April 12th at 10:30 am. Opportunities for Rotarians to be judges here and in Belleville.
It appears we don't have a student for Adventures in Citizenship program. Student that appeared to express interest has not materialized.
Spring Valley Fun Fair June 8, asked Rotary to BBQ. R Jeff B and Bob volunteered with Joy.

Happy Bucks: not enough time to list everything happy about, for what you do with Cancer Society, home at 2:30am and grandkids came and prepared Easter dinner, happy to be here, Cobourg Rotary Friday, Karen and all she does, return to the old Relay for Life format, good to see Karen again, Jack is 2 and trip to Aquarium in Toronto where everything was WOW, trip to Evanston, to be back with everyone.

Rotarians in District 7070 have been committed over the past nearly 40 years to raising funds to immunize children worldwide and our efforts are paying off. You should be proud of the difference that Rotary has made in the lives of millions of children by eliminating this dreadful disease.

I want to thank you for your past efforts and ask that you recommit to helping us raise funds to finish Rotary’s number one initiative of eradicating polio. Rotary is still committed to raising $50 million a year for this effort.

As such, we are launching the District 7070 Polio Plus Society and are inviting you to join our efforts to continue to raise funds to eradicate polio. To become a member of the District 7070 Polio Plus Society you are asked to commit to making an annual donation of $100 USD or more to The Rotary Foundation’s Polio Plus Fund until the last two countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan, are certified free of the wild polio virus.
