Alyssa has an Early Childhood Education diploma, and had worked in the childcare field for 8 years, before obtaining a Library and Information Technician diploma last year. While I have only been with Brighton Public Library since this summer, I have found that both my education backgrounds have been useful here, while still learning more everyday by working with the staff and serving the community. When I'm not appreciating the unlimited knowledge from libraries, I am listening to music and loving anything and everything to do with red pandas.
Alyssa is a library clerk, normally at the front .desk but also involved with programming and events. She is trying to branch out.
The library is a safe and welcoming space. The main branch is in Brighton with a smaller library in Coderington.
They try to help patrons and value equal access to all. They provide internet services and on -line learning.
They have several data basis such as 'ancestry', magazines and books, and world resources.
They offer special resources for reading for people of all needs such as audio books, ebooks and CELA.
Digital access is provided such as WiFi, a 'code' club for kids and Tech Tuesdays which is a one on one training sessions.
They value community engagement and provide programming for all ages, especially with Community partners. They have a new born group and schooling at home.
They work on their communication to get word out through pop ups in summer and a newsletter and social media to inform people of the services and events at the library.
At the library they value FUN.
They also participate in a music instrument lending program.
