R Chris introduced Leiann Peart, Director of Client Services for Community Care Northumberland. She has been with Community Care for 15 years and formally Family Services Director with Salvation Army in Trenton. She lives outside Brighton.

Community Care Northumberland has existed since 1988 providing services to:
  • adults with disabilities
  • hospice clients
  • families and caregivers
  • recovering from illness and injury
 
basically serving everyone.

They have offices throughout Northumberland County including in Brighton. They have 70 paid staff (full and part-time) plus over 800 volunteers providing over 85,000 volunteers hours annually, and over 6,000 clients.

Services Provided Include:

Nutrition through Meals on Wheels and Community dinners.

In Home Support such as light house keeping, yard work and maintenance, laundry and light meal preparation as well as transition from hospital to home.

Transportation Services including volunteer drivers, specialty transportation, rural bus service and they are piloting a stretcher transportation service.

Wellness - exercise classes and workshops, social groups, telephone reassurance calls, friendly visits and personal distress alarms.

Ed's House - Hospice services with 6 suites and 4 to be added as funds allow. They provide care and education, caregiver support, grief and bereavement support.

Their annual budget is $4.43 million with 51% coming from the Provincial Ministry, 15% from programs, 23% from fundraising, 10% from grants.
