Dr. Brilliant predicted the need for early detection and early response to pandemic. He illustrated how quickly it can spread world wide.
For the current COVID19 pandemic, some island nations have done well, where other nations have not due to fear and political interference from denial and doubt. Viruses move exponentially and favour density. COVID19 has high transmission and short incubation. It is particularly bad because it can impact multiple organs.
What is needed is rapid detection and rapid response. We need contact tracing. We need to slow down the spread through social distancing and good hygiene to flatten the curve.
He believes we can do it, but need to listen to scientists and doctors and not politicians.
We live in one world. We are not special but will be subject to this and other viruses that jump from animals to humans. He was somehow involved in the movie 'Contagion', and the eradication of Small Pox.
He has hope.
