Regarding R Rudy
Just letting you know Pap has decided, and not without some gnashing of teeth, to no longer attend Rotary meetings. He plans to write an official note so that will come your way. He’s fine. Just that much more infirm. Simply moving from chair to chair is a true hardship and he refuses to consider an electric wheelchair or use a Walker. Real men don’t use ‘em, don’t ya know! But there’s his hearing, as well.
I want everyone to know how wonderful a group you are and each of you are considered a friend. Please feel free to drop by anytime. We would like to continue as Friends and stay in the loop. Who knows. 😃
With much love, Liesje

Hi   We are getting close to the end of the Rotary year and I ask you to have a look at the attached reports and see how your club is doing to meet your goals for the Annual Fund and Polio Eradication. Several clubs have not contributed anything to these funds so far this year. There is still time to make your goal and the Rotary Citation.   I also remind clubs that it is time again to enter your goals for the next Rotary year.   Let me know if you need any assistance.  Bob Wallace Rotary Coordinator

DG Iosif’s weekly report:

We start with some very sad news, with a heavy heart I have to share with you the loss of two long serving Rotarians in our  District.
Don Sirko, was a member of the Rotary Club of Parkdale High Park Humber. Don was one of the longest standing members of the Parkdale-High Park-Humber club, beginning his membership in 1993, and having been President of our club 3 different times. Don had perfect attendance throughout his membership of 30 years! Even when he was away he would find meetings to attend or do makeups upon his return by visiting other clubs. Don is is survived by his wife Irene, his daughter, Larissa, and his son, Alex.
Grant Southwell, was a member of  the Rotary Club of Trenton.  Grant was a Rotarian for 55 years and also a Past President of the Wawa Club.  Grant was an integral part of Rotary Youth Exchange in District 7070 for many years. Grant's father Eldon  brought him into Rotary in Oshawa in 1967 and it was truly his passion.  In his younger days,Grant was the first President of the Rotaract Club of Oshawa - the very first Rotaract Club in Canada.  The family will receive friends for a time of visitation at the Weaver Life Centre, 29 Bay Street, Trenton on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 from 5-8 pm. Funeral Ceremony in memory of Grant will be held at Heroes Landing, 57 Stella Cres., Trenton on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at 2 pm with reception to immediately follow  Here is the link :  May24. https://www.weaverfuneralhomes.com/obituaries/Grant-Edward-Southwell?obId=27947815#/celebrationWall
Both, Don and Grant were dedicated Rotarians that have left their mark on their clubs, families and communities. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families, clubs, and communities. They will be greatly missed.

HEAR! HEAR! From Dave Andrew!
Speakers Corner is here:
Looking For A Place to Find Speakers?   Got a good Speaker you have recently heard?  Well, you've come to the right place! We want this to be a great resource for speakers for your club. The speakers listed have been all recommended by other clubs in our District. The list will be updated often so you may want to "bookmark" this page!
Speakers are listed by category as shown on the District 7070 website "Speakers Corner" page under the Our Work Tab.  Questions or comments? Good idea? Worthwhile? Just follow the instructions on the Speakers Corner Page and then contact Rotary District 7070 Public Image Chair Dave Andrews at dave.f.andrews99@gmail.com. with the speakers (and their info) that you wish to add to Speaker's Corner for all of the clubs to enjoy.

Licensed Imagery - Be Careful
In the past three years, District 7070 has received letters from a company representing a major wire service pointing out specific  images ( i.e. photos or videos) that have been copyrighted by the wire service. They ask us to prove that we have or had a license to republish the photo, pay a service fee to them or resolve the issue with the wire service (likely in court) . This is just a small sample of incidents from one of many companies doing the same thing.  As a precaution, we encourage your club to use only images (photos and videos) that are in the Rotary Brand Center or that you create yourself.

Upcoming Happenings in our District!

Rotary at Pride Toronto Parade 2023!

Our PDG Mary-Lou Harrison is organizing the PRIDE parade!

Sunday, 25th June, 2023. Members of the Rotary family (and their friends and family!) are invited to march in a spirit of celebration and inclusion in the Pride Toronto Parade! We have a marching permit for up to 100 people, and we hope you will join us with your friends and family!
Our participation is more than just a celebration of Rotary's commitment to and action on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. It is a message of support to people around the world, including in our own organization, who cannot fully be and express who they are without fear of discrimination, violence, imprisonment, and even death.

Can't wait to see you in action on Sunday, June 25!

Have a great week!

Cheers,
DG Iosif

Final thought: Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson were going camping. They pitched their tent under the stars and went to sleep. Some time in the middle of the night, Holmes woke Watson up and said, “Watson, look up at the sky, and tell me what you see.”
Watson replied, “I see millions and millions of stars.”
Holmes asked, “And what do you deduce from that?”
Watson replied, “Well, if there are millions of stars, and if even a few of those have planets, it’s quite likely there are some planets like Earth out there. And if there are a few planets like Earth out there, there might also be life.”
Holmes said, “Watson, you idiot, it means that somebody stole our tent.”

From R Daniel

A Scotsman gets very intoxicated and walking home from the pub has to stop and rest against a tree. A couple girls come by and see him there and wonder what is under the kilt. One of the girls ties a ribbon around his penis. When the Scotsman wakes up in the morning and sees the ribbon he says, 'I don't know where you were last night, but I'm glad you won first prize.'.

Rotary Minute:

Rotarians in District 7070 have been committed over the past nearly 40 years to raising funds to immunize children worldwide and our efforts are paying off.  You should be proud of the difference that Rotary have made in the lives of millions of children by eliminating this dreadful disease.

I want to thank you for your past efforts and ask that you recommit to helping us raise funds to finish Rotary’s number one initiative of eradicating polio.  Rotary is still committed to raising $50 million a year for this effort.

As such, we are launching the District 7070 Polio Plus Society and are inviting you to join our efforts to continue to raise funds to eradicate polio.  To become a member of the District 7070 Polio Plus Society you are asked to commit to making an annual donation of $100 USD or more to The Rotary Foundation’s Polio Plus Fund until the last two countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan, are certified free of the wild polio virus.

We hope that with your commitment in joining the District 7070 Polio Plus Society, we will make a significant increase in our contributions to the eradication of polio.

Stories
Michael Koerber Classification 2a
R Michael is glad to be back with the Rotary Club of Brighton. For this his second Classification, he has changed it up and focusing on youth, education and work.

Michael grew up in the Kitchener Waterloo area. He showed us some pictures of the Cities. He went to Bluevale Collegiate, in the 2nd class to attend the new school. He focused on math and science and then went to Ryerson taking metallurgy. A particular lab was 3 hours a week and all math, solving problems.

Then he went to Queen's University and pointed out where he proposed to Audrey.

He later did an MBA in Breakwater Prison in Cape Town. It wasn't a prison when he attended. (I don't think)?

Then he proceeded to show us where he worked around the world, at different mines and processing facilities

He showed us how the desert in South Africa can blossom when the rains come. Lots of colour.

He has worked in many facilities, from gold, uranium and many others. From northern Quebec, Timmins, Nevada, Alaska and Africa. He briefly talked about improved techniques to extract more of the minerals, more environment friendly techniques.

He showed us a plant in BC that is his baby, that he helped design from ground up. Another plant that the equipment had to be installed to replace old without slowing down production.

Stay tuned for part 2.
