R Jeff introduce Kim Good:
Kim Good is the Executive Director of The Bridge Hospice Foundation. She is a development professional (and an entrepreneurial spirit) with over 25 years of experience specializing in corporate and individual fundraising, event production and donor relations and stewardship. She considers herself a development generalist. Most recently she worked with Mackenzie Health Foundation where they had just completed a $250M campaign to fund the community portion of the new Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital – the largest community hospital campaign in Canada. She has extensive experience in staff and volunteer management and thinks of herself as a creative problem solver. She is a strong advocate for community engagement and enjoys developing relationships. An interesting fact about Kim is that she was the second women in Canada to have a Pro FIA Race license and was a regional racer at Mosport and Shannonville, ran in the GT/Touring Classes and Formula 2000. She has spent a number of years managing a NASCAR team across Canada, was the founding Executive Director of the Canadian Motorsports Hall of Fame, and was a high performance driving instructor for the Labatt Road Scholarship. Kim moved to Warkworth for the role at The Bridge Hospice Foundation and is new member of the Trent Hills community.
Kim has been with Bridge Hospice about 8 months now.
Bridge Hospice is 10 years old with 3 beds, providing round the clock care and support. It is all about living their last days.
The Bridge Hospice Foundation was registered in 2019 and launched in 2022. Their Mission includes financial stability. About 40% of their funding comes from the Province to cover nurses and PSW's.
They don't charge families for their services.
Fund raising in our poor economic climate comes with challenges. A recent report about Non-profit organizations predicts increased demand for services and increased costs, that many Non -profits will close in next few years. Many Non-profits have had to dip into their reserves. Bridge Hospice has a modest reserve and has not dipped into it.
Bridge Hospice have a plan to build relationships with donors hoping donors will give more frequently and more.
They have issues finding staff and are implementing protocols to retain staff such as making changes slowly.
They will be engaging and recruiting volunteers, particularly looking for specific skills to support staff.
There are new changes coming to tax laws in 2024 that will impact high income people most, but could have impact on Non-profits.
Bridge Hospice servicing four area Municipalites including Trent Hills, Brighton, Cramahe and Alwick Haldiman. At this time with Campbellford Hospital's capital campaign it provides some local competition for resources.
Key areas of focus for Bridge Hospice is donor stewardship (ask donors to give), educate people, update website and engage the right volunteers. They would like a lawyer and estate planner.
They are planning an event for Families who have utilized the Bridge Hospice on December 21.
They have a new Naming campaign. They are looking to have people share their stories and build strategic relationships.
