R Liesje introduced R Sandi Ramsay from Lower Trent Conservation:
Sandi is Communications Specialist with Lower Trent Conservation. She joined the conservation authority in 2015, following an extensive career in broadcasting, advertising, media marketing and teaching. Sandi was a teacher for the schools of Media, Arts and Design at both Durham and Loyalist College for 12 years. She has a diploma in Broadcast Journalism, a post graduate diploma in Media Marketing & Sales and a Bachelor of Education - Adult Education Degree from Brock University. Sandi is a Rotarian with the Trenton Club.
Sandi loves to visit Brighton Rotary.
She is visiting all the Rotary Clubs within the watershed which she described. Pretty big.
She is asking for help from Rotary to support outreach and education to our youth, in schools from Junior Kindergarten to grade 12. They get no funding from Province for this, it all comes for service clubs, businesses and individuals.
Their goal is to connect kids to nature. To instill a love of the outdoors so they will embrace it and appreciate it. They get 1,000 kids each year to their Water Festival. They want children to understand the importance of the watershed and protect it. She gave an example of a Brighton ENSS student who in grade 9 several years ago was encouraged to enter a contest which she won. But she didn't stop there, she took her project, 'Red Fish' to local municipalities to educate them and get them on board. Her project is to educate and stop people from putting harmful chemicals or other inappropriate things in our sewers because it causes many problems from pollution of our waters to blockages in the sewers.
Sandi is asking for support from Brighton Rotary once again to support Lower Trent's education and outreach programs to children.
