Rotarian Emily gave us an update of Pathways to Independance's Family Host Program.
As a recap, Pathways is a not for profit organization that works with adults with challenges whether mentally or physically to live an active life and as independent as possible. They have group homes but also try to provide individual family settings as well.
Host Family Services started 30 years ago. They are looking for host families. Sort of like foster homes for adults.
They support the host families and provide help to retrofit the home as necessary. The needs of each individual is different.
It is a rigorous process to get approved to be a host family. But can lead to lifelong relationships. The individuals become part of the family.
Pathways provides rest periods for host families as needed.
At this time Pathways is looking to grow the Host Family program and are offering incentives to people to step up. If interested, reach out to Pathways to Independence.
