Abby's report:

I haven't had wifi for the past week or so because i've been skiing in the austrian alps (learning to ski, struggling to understand german) and it was the most beautiful place i have visited in my whole life. as always, the french school system , my school specifically , is frustrating. the other three girls and i have tried to get rotary involved with changing classes since the maturity level is very difficult to deal with. but even though, i have lots my friends my age, i just hardly see them. my family is a delight, i love my sister so so much, but i have found that my relationship with my last family has gotten cold ( i was so focused on trying to work things out with school and bonding with my new family that i hardly saw my last family who i will go back to), whenever i went to go see my mom she was incredibly busy and my host brother and i have drastically different schedules so i hardly see him. but i am working on reparing it slowly and when my dad from canada comes to visit in a few weeks i'm trying to organize a dinner with them. I am competing in the  school spectacuar which i am a little scared for but also really excited. i see my exchange student friends a lot and am starting to pick up a little spanish. Jaqueline told me that next year the boy who is from 7070 will be in my district 1670, he will have an awesome time! minus all the rain. France is defintely helping me with choices about the future job-wise, i am really glad i am in a country where i can really excell at the language and use it lots when i get home, even though i'm forgetting to speak english and every dream i have and almost every thought is in french. thanks for listening and let me know if there is anything else you need to know. Abby

Quinte Sailability Update by Fletch
2018

Quinte Sailability is going into their 18th year. Brighton Rotary provided their first boat. They now have 11 sailboats and 6 sailboats and one coach boat all bought by Rotary Clubs. Their two racing boats are Rotary Way and Rotary Wave. They have competed from Halifax to Vancouver and many Rotary boats across the country.

Quinte Sailability is at CFB Trenton and plan to put in lift at Trent Port Marina this summer.

Sports for people with disabilities helps with - strength, balance and endurance. Helps with their everyday living. Success in sports gives them success, they identify as an athlete. If they can sail, they can do other things so they expand their goals. They can break their glass ceiling. There is no speed limit on the water.

Quinte Sailability provides a 10 week training session during the summer months. They participate in regattas across the country, sailed in both oceans.

2018 budget = $27,551. Administration costs only $400. Big expense is for instructors and they need an instructor.
42 volunteers including 18 regular forces personel = 2300 hours
Cost = $38 for 1 1/2 hour lessons weekly.  Students are charged $11.40 whether they train for fun or racing.

Fletch shared testimony of Nicole Flynn, a first year student at Loyalist and competitive sailor at Quinte Sailability.
